1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct outlines the professional standards and behaviours expected of all contracted tutors at Ascent Education. Compliance with this Code is a condition of your tutoring contract.
2. Commitment to Child Safety
- Tutors must uphold Ascent Education’s Statement of Commitment to Child Safety and comply with the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 (NSW) and related legislation.
- Tutors must prioritise the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of all students.
- Tutors must immediately report any child safety concerns following Ascent Education’s Internal Reporting Procedure.
3. Professional Behaviour
Tutors must:
- Act honestly, ethically, and respectfully at all times.
- Be punctual and reliable for all scheduled sessions.
- Dress appropriately for an educational environment.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, and Ascent Education staff.
- Avoid any behaviour that could reasonably be perceived as harassment, exploitation, or favouritism.
4. Boundaries with Students
- Tutors must not engage in any form of sexual, abusive, or inappropriate conduct.
- Tutors must not have one-on-one closed-door sessions in homes without a parent/guardian present.
- Tutors must not transport students unless expressly authorised by Ascent Education and the parent/guardian.
- Tutors must not exchange personal contact details or connect with students on personal social media.
- Online sessions must be conducted only via Ascent-approved platforms (e.g. Zoom, Teams).
5. Tutoring Environments
- In Homes: Parent/guardian must be present in the home; doors remain open.
- Libraries/Public Spaces: Sessions in visible, public areas only.
- Online (Zoom/Teams): No recording sessions without prior written parental consent; professional background and attire required.
6. Use of Technology and Privacy
- Tutors must not store, share, or use student information outside the purposes of providing contracted tutoring.
- Tutors must comply with Ascent Education’s Privacy and Confidentiality Policy and the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW).
- Tutors must only use secure and approved channels of communication with students and parents.
7. Compliance and Reporting
- Tutors must maintain a current, verified Working With Children Check (WWCC) at all times.
- Tutors must comply with their obligations under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 (NSW), including mandatory reporting where required.
- Any breaches of this Code may result in immediate termination of the tutoring contract.

By accepting a contract with Ascent Education, you agree to comply with this Code of Conduct and all related policies provided in the Tutor Induction Pack.
